I’m just sitting here wondering why two states that went from Democratic governors to, huh, Democratic governors is a statement against the other party.  If they switched parties that would be one thing but maintaining the status quo doesn’t seem like a big deal to me.

Now if you are talking referendum defeats in California, that was a pretty solid whack against the governor and his agenda.

I’ve always been a bit leary about the ‘survival time’ of deli meats.   Now i know.

I’ll have to check the fridge temperature as well.   Looks like 40 is the recommendation.

The sub thing reminds me that in Sept 2001, Sarah and I got to take a tour of the USS Kamehameha in San Francisco, a stop it made on its way to Washington St for decommissioning.  It was a chance thing, just happened to be in the right place at the right time for a once in a lifetime tour.   Very cool, very confined spaces

Here is a website dedicated to the boat: http://www.kamfish.com/

Here are some pictures that include shots from where we got to get on the boat.  http://www.kamfish.com/kamphotos_DV_Cruise_2001.html (at the bottom, at Alameda).   Sarah and I were visiting the USS Hornet museum that day.

Way back in the day i used to keep lists of this kind of information. Now you can find it on the web. I love the web.

Here is a list of all the sub home ports around the world.

I visited Austria, Switzerland and Germany in 1989 on a 14 day tour.

Most of these were pass thru-visits on the way to other places.  I do need to see  more of the country, particularly out west.

101_1877What a day.  Sarah and I drove down to the Kentucky Speedway in Sparta Kentucky for a Ford event where we got to drive the not yet released 2006 Ford Fusion, a car if you’ve read my blog, I’m really interested in acquiring.  The test drive did nothing to dampen that thought. Very fun car to drive and just the right size for me.

Here is a dump of the pictures I took while we were there.   Most of it are Fusion pictures but there are a few of the new Fusion NASCAR body, the Shelby Mustang GT 500 (wow!) and of the event itself.

I’m signed up! Go FUSION!

Having animal protein allergies really limits where one can eat.  Last weekend Sarah found a place that caters to this with vegan friendly fare.   Its great to be able to go to a place and order normally without worrying about what is in the ingredients that’ll cause problems.

We’ve rewarded BK Pizza on 56th and Allisonville with repeated business since a week ago Saturday (4 visits in 8 days!).  Here’s a few pictures of the menu:

I have always been fascinated by airplanes, from the mundane (airports) to the cool (A-10 Thunderbolts).   One of the more fascinating things of late is the Boeing-Airbus battle on the airliner front.

The scorecard (from the WSJ).  In addition to the 787 orders (these are through march), Boeing just this month sold 20 to Air India and 60 to Air Canada).

On April 16, Sarah and i took a class on Thai cooking.  It was mostly a watch the cook make stuff kinda thing but we did learn a couple of techniques that have proven useful and a couple of recipes.  The cucumber salad is awesome!

Okay .. we’ve been busy on the homefront .. however i haven’t been busy with keeping the blog up. I’m going to go through some of our projects over the next few posts (and going back in time a bit!)

I’m on a miles per gallon kick.  We just took a long highway only trip to Chicago in the focus ST.  The EPA rating has it at 32 miles per gallon for highway driving.   We filled up twice, once where the average speed was 75+ (i was still getting passed!) and on the way back we kept the car just above 70.   No difference in mileage — 28.3 either way.   Thats just a bit more than Sarah is getting on her daily commute.   It will be interesting to see if we get closer to the EPA ‘perfect world’ numbers once spring and summer rolls around.  The ambient temps were in the ‘30s.

I have to obsess on Sarah’s car because my Taurus SE is averaging around 20.  Bah Humbug.

Sarah finally got me to the gym on Saturday.  Did 30 minutes on the bike.  It wasn’t too bad.  Listening to the MP3 player helps pass the time.  The legs felt pretty wobbly when i was done as you’d expect.  Got the heart rate up to 155 or so and sustained that for at least a few minutes.  At first i was trying to keep the RPMs at 60 or so but i slowed down to 45–50 as i tuckered out.

Skipped out today .. will try to do the exercise thing every other day.  Sarah’s a good motivator so i’m sure I’ll keep it up.

The legs are definitely a bit stiff today.

Ate at Olive Garden tonight.  Tomorrow i go back to restricting carbs quite a bit.  And drink water.  The water and getting up early enough to make breakfast were the two things i was lax at before.

Out

It has rained all day to day .. and is raining some more.  Its suppose to turn to snow later tonight.  They say about an 1 accumulation with 4 inches up in northern Indiana.   I don’t think the snow will be around very long as its suppose to be up in the high 30′s tomorrow.
